Taylor grabs gold in long jump during first day of the split weekend

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman women's track and field athlete Brooke Taylor placed first in the women's long jump with a 5.56-meter performance at the Montreat College Open this afternoon, Mar. 22. 

"We had tough weather conditions today which happens frequently in outdoor," head track and field coach David Needs said. "It definitely is a challenge, and today was no different. I'm proud of many of our athletes who overcame conditions to compete well". 

Taylor finished first in the women's long jump at the Montreat College Open this afternoon, Mar. 22. She finished the event with a 5.56-meter leap. Teammate Sydney McCarty placed second in the event with a 5.51-meter performance. Brooke Visser finished 13th in 4.97 meters. 

In the men's pole vault, Matthew Bretscher placed ninth with a 3.35-meter performance. Ian Salyer grabbed 18th in the men's discus throw. He finished with a 40.89-meter mark. 

In the women's shot put, Taylor Steele placed 21st with a 9.76-meter performance. 

At the first day of the Lee Invitational, Christian Henry finished the men's javelin throw in 11th place. Henry left the event with a 37.84-meter mark. Will Kolb finished 16th in the men's 1,000-meter run in 35:50.20. 

The Eagles are back in action for the second day of the split weekend tomorrow, Mar. 23. Events at the Lee Invitational will begin at 8:45 a.m. Live result can be found HERE. The second day of the Montreat College Open will begin at 9:30 a.m. Live results can be found HERE

"Hopefully, tomorrow we will see a break in the weather and see some strong results at both Lee and Montreat," Needs said.
