JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's first team offense was the star of the show during the Eagles' annual media day scrimmage.

In a situational affair that saw the ones line up against the ones at various yard lines, Carson-Newman's first team offense scored every time it touched the ball in a highly efficient manner.   The Eagles' first team offense only needed 16 plays to score those six touchdowns on drives ranging from 65 yards in length down to 25.

While the first team defense took some licks, the second team defense didn't allow a single touchdown on the day.

"It's a great feeling to be back in pads," quarterback De'Andre Thomas (Milledgeville, Ga.) said. "The offense came out and executed the game plan.  This came down to having the will to get the job done."

Jamal Jones (Chattanooga, Tenn.) got the scrimmage started on a positive note for the first team offense.  On the fifth play of the day, Jones burst through a hole on the left side of the line, spun through a tackle, stiff-armed a defender and then rumbled 42 yards for a score.

The Eagles' first team offense quickly found the end zone a second time three plays later when Thomas hit TraShaun Ward (Miami, Fla.) on an out-and-up route along the left sideline for a score.

That gave way to the second team offense, which was able to drive the ball into field goal territory.  That set up freshman kicker Carson Wise (Blacksburg, Va.), who laser-beamed a 47-yard field goal through the uprights.

As the offense set up shop on various yard lines, Damian Baker scored (Columbus, Miss.) with touchdown runs of three and four yards, Thomas got into the end zone once on an option keeper around the left side and freshman running back Antonio Wimbush (Kingsland, Ga.) found paydirt from six yards out.

Also among the offensive highlights: a 70-yard gain for Jamal Jones on a situational play from his own one yard line, a 47-yard snag by Ward to get the first team offense inside the 10 and a 40-yard diving grab by Aaron Seward (Charlotte, N.C.).

The Eagles defense had its moments, Hayden Hester (Kingston, Tenn.) caused and recovered a fumble on a series with the second team defense.

Carson-Newman's next scrimmage takes place Saturday at 3 p.m. at Burke-Tarr Stadium.  The scrimmage is open to the public.
