VIDEO: Dan Gallman Interview
AUSTIN, Texas – For a second consecutive year, Carson-Newman junior offensive lineman Dan Gallman (Naples, Fla.) has earned himself a spot on CoSIDA's Academic All-District team.
Honorees must carry a 3.3 GPA. Gallman has maintained a 3.80 GPA as he studies finance at Carson-Newman.
"I've worked hard and stuck with it," Gallman said. "As much as I love football, it's not why I'm here. I'm here to earn good grades and get a degree."
By earning the first team academic all-district honors, Gallman is now eligible to earn academic All-America honors. He will look to become Carson-Newman's third academic All-America honoree since 2012, potentially joining kicker Curt Duncan and running back Randall Freeman.
Known among his teammates as The Washing Machine, Gallman has started 23 consecutive games at left tackle for the Eagles.
Gallman has a team-best nine knockdowns this season and his 68.55 average grade is the second highest on the team behind starting center Derek Evans (Alcoa, Tenn.).
"It's all about time management," Gallman said. "When you're working on something, you have to be focused on it. So, whether it's football or class work, you have to lock in until the job is done."
The junior has helped clear the way for Damian Baker (Columbus, Miss.) to rush for more than 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. This is the third consecutive season Gallman has helped clear the way for a 1,000-yard rusher.
The Eagles have a pair of 600-yard performances this season with Gallman blocking and have scored more than 50 points on three occasions.
Gallman and the rest of the Eagles will be on display Saturday against regionally-ranked North Greenville at 1 p.m. Coverage for the game will be available on the Eagle Sports Network on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville), Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
