JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (4-2, 2-2 South Atlantic Conference) jumped out to an early 14-0 advantage and never looked back in a 45-14 lambasting of Brevard (0-6, 0-3 SAC).

The Eagles rolled up 593 yards of total offense and saw four different players find the end zone on the ground.

C-N has never lost to Brevard now in nine meetings.  The Eagles are the only South Atlantic Conference team that the Tornados have never defeated all-time.

"Our kids made some upward movements today," head coach Ken Sparks said. "There were some things that certainly weren't perfect today, but we made a step forward today.  It was good to play good football against Brevard and we're grateful for that improvement."

The Eagles rotated the first and second teams in and out of the game throughout the day.  That resulted in second team quarterback Noah Suber (Asheville, N.C.) leading the offense. Suber produced his first 100-yard day on the ground with two scores on 12 carries.  He also completed all five of his passing attempts for 100 yards and a score.

"Noah kept drives alive with his running two or three times," Sparks said. "I can only think of a couple times where he missed a read, he really did well today."

Damian Baker (Columbus, Miss.) had 86 yards on just six carries. Lonnie Williams led all receivers with 97 yards on four catches and a score.

"We overall blocked better today," Sparks said. "That's just not with the offensive line, that's the running backs and the receivers down field. Our backs continue to run hard, we're blessed with that. We've got to get better at reading the option.  But playing so many people today helped us because a group didn't want to go on the field and not get it done."

Brevard slotback Anthony Washington led the Tornados on the ground with 68 yards on nine carries (48 yards of which came on one play).  Brevard QB Tyler Gregory was 2-for-5 through the air for 21 yards and a score.

Darius Morris led the Eagles' defense with 12 stops, Temoris Coats (Greenwood, S.C.) added 10 tackles.  The Eagles collectively made nine stops behind the line of scrimmage with four sacks. Justin Long (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Jaysen Cook-Calhoun each had 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

Carson-Newman got the scoring started on its opening possession.  A Damian Baker (Columbus, Miss.) 69-yard run put the Eagles in scoring position and Antonio Wimbush (Kingsland, Ga.) punctuated the possession with a six-yard trap around the right side of the line.

After a Brevard three-and-out, the Eagles got the ball with a short field at their own 47.  Just one play later, Noah Suber (Asheville, N.C.) hooked up with Lonnie Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) on a fly route along the boundary left side for a 53-yard score.

Carson-Newman flip-flopped the first and second teams on every possession of the game both offensively and defensively.  On C-N's fourth possession of the game, De'Andre Thomas (Milledgeville, Ga.) threw the first interception of the season for C-N.

Brevard took the ensuing possession down into the redzone and finished off the drive with a TJ Lett 15-yard touchdown grab from Tyler Gregory.

Carson-Newman would then reel of 31 straight points to cement the game.  The Eagles closed out the second quarter with a Jamal Jones (Chattanooga, Tenn.) 25-yard touchdown run on a draw.

The Eagles picked up where they left off in the third quarter. Brevard got the football to begin the half and promptly lost it.  Phalen Booker (Waveland, Miss.) forced Tyler Gregory to lose control of a pitch and Brandon Staton (Barnwell, S.C.) pounced on the bouncing pigskin.   A Carson Wise (Blacksburg, Va.) 26-yard field goal capped off the brief possession for the Eagles.

Carson-Newman got the ball back when it forced the Tornados off the turf on down with a Jason Williams (Fayetteville, Ga.) 12-yard sack.  C-N took the ensuing possession inside the 15 before Suber hurdled the pile at the line of scrimmage and then dragged two defenders into the end zone for a 12-yard score.

Eien Jacob (Jeanerette, La.) jumped a route for an interception on Brevard's next possession to allow Montavious Taylor (Atlanta, Ga.) to find the end zone on a weaving run around the left side of the field from 26 yards away.

The Eagles continued to pour it on with a defensive three-and-out followed by a Suber one-yard QB sneak for the junior's second touchdown of the day on the ground.

After 31-straight Carson-Newman points, Brevard at long last responded with a 16-play. 83-yard drive that evaporated 9:05 off the clock and ended in a Kevin Rucker 15-yard touchdown on a pitch around the left side of the line.  That score set the final margin at 45-14 C-N.

The Eagles became the first Division II team to score 40 points on the Tornados this season.   C-N's 593 yards of total offense marks the third occasion this season where the Eagles have been on the plus side of 500 yards of offense.

Carson-Newman stays within the friendly confines of Burke-Tarr Stadium next weekend for homecoming. The Newberry Wolves come to town for a 3 p.m. kickoff in Burke-Tarr Stadium and a 2 p.m. airtime on the Eagle Sports Network on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville), Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
