C-N opens new McCown Field; Milligan spoils Eagles' opener, 4-2

JEFFERSON CITY - The Carson-Newman men's soccer team opened its 2011 season Thursday night with a 4-2 loss to visiting Milligan College at the newly renovated McCown Field.

The Buffaloes got a pair of first-half goals from Nahom Tekle as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead at intermission.  Carson-Newman tried to rally in the second half, but was unable to make up the difference.

Moise Leonce started the scoring for Milligan in the seventh minute of the game.  Two minutes latter, Tekle scored his first goal off an assist from Nimely Robertson.  Tekle also scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute.

Carson-Newman got its offense going in the 53rd minute when Joao Pedro Dowlsey converted a Tyson Adkinson corner kick to pull the Eagles within 3-1.  But Chris Ochieng answered for the Buffaloes to make it a 4-1 game in the 75th minute. 

Jared Prall (junior, Mt. Juliet, Tenn./Wilson Central HS) scored off an assist from Robert Hill (senior,Middlesbrough, England/Middlesbrough College) in the 81st minute to make the final score.

The two teams finished with eight shots apiece in the contest.  Carson-Newman held a commanding 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Carson-Newman will return to action on Wednesday, September 7 when it hosts Bryan at 6 p.m.
