ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman senior forward Robbie Hill (Middlesborough, England) and senior defender Evan Preston-Kelly (Galway, Ireland) have been named to the 2011 All-South Atlantic Conference Soccer Teams, the conference announced on Thursday.
Hill earned first-team honors for the third consecutive season. The senior had eight goals and a career-high six assists during his final season. He leaves Carson-Newman as the school's all-time leading scorer with 48 career goals. He is tied for ninth on the SAC's all-time scoring list. His 115 career points is also ninth all-time.
Preston-Kelly was a midseason addition for the Eagles and earns second team All-SAC honors as a defender. He scored one goal and helped the Eagles to two shutouts over the season's final eight games.
The Eagles finished the season 6-10-1 and 4-4-1 in SAC play under first-year head coach Richard Moodie.
For the second-straight season, Anderson forward Lasse Sohrweide has been named the SAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year.
Sohrweide, who also earned a spot among the All-Conference first team forwards, led the SAC in points, goals, game-winning goals, shots and assists. His standout season helped Anderson finish a perfect 9-0 in the SAC and capture the outright regular-season conference championship.
Sohrweide joins five other Trojans earning All-SAC distinction, including four more on the first team in midfielders Shu Ogawa and Mark Smith, defender Kevin Butler and goalkeeper Lukas Hesse.
Joining AU with six All-Conference selections apiece are Tusculum and Mars Hill, which finished No. 2 and No. 3 in the regular-season SAC standings, respectively.
MHC had four first-team picks, led by forward Stephen Bivens, who finished top-10 in the SAC in every major offensive statistical category. He is joined by fellow first-teamers Rury Caulfield, Troy Chavez and Zac Scott – who was part of a three-way tie for first-team goalkeeper with Hesse and Lincoln Memorial's Michael Watkins.
Headlining Tusculum's six All-SAC members is first-team defender Matias Rubio. The Pioneers also placed five on the second team. TC's strong season was led by Allen Vital, who earned SAC Coach of the Year honors after the Pioneers finished 6-1-2 in the league.
Lincoln Memorial had four first-team and one second-team All-Conference honorees. LMU forward Mario Pinto was a first-team forward selection, and was also named the SAC Freshman of the Year after a season in which he finished second in the league in points, goals and shots. He joins teammates Watkins, midfielder Chris Nash and defender Callum Home on the first team.
Completing the All-SAC first team is Carson-Newman forward Robbie Hill, the No. 3 points and goal scorer in the conference this season.
C-N placed one student-athlete on the second team as well, while Catawba had three named to the second team.
Tusculum and Wingate tied for the SAC Fair Play Award, which recognizes the teams that accumulated the fewest red and yellow cards during conference play.
