Jolley's hat trick leads Eagles past Newberry, 5-2

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Carson-Newman's Taylor Jolley scored three times in a 19-minute span to carry the Eagles to its highest goal total and biggest South Atlantic Conference win of the season, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at Newberry College.

Carson-Newman (6-8-1, 4-4-1 SAC) opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Joao Pedro Dowlsey corralled a pass from Robert Hill and struck a shot off the bottom of the crossbar that fell into the back of the net.

Evan Kelly added a tally in the 16th minute on a header off a Tyson Adkinson corner. The next three goals for the Eagles came from Taylor Jolley who completed the hat trick in the 26th, 34th, and 44th minutes, respectively.

Jolley's hat trick is the first of the Eagles season and carries C-N into the SAC Tournment on its highest gaol-ouput of the season.

Newberry (5-12-0, 1-8-0) looked to counter in the second half as sophomore Stephen Harvey (Kingston, Jamaica) fed Kufuor (Accra, Ghana) just inside the 18-yard box before the Ghanaian was able to score his seventh goal of the season.

Maitland (Columbia, S.C.) recorded his fifth goal of the season as Harvey sent a ball down the pitch that was run onto by Maitland and chipped into the goal from about 18 yards out.

Newberry goalkeeper Joel Johnson (Sangre Grande, Trinidad & Tobago) recorded 11 saves on the afternoon.

Prior to kickoff the Wolves honored their five member senior class. The Newberry College seniors honored were: Stephan Bass (Fayetteville, Ga.), Justin Blomdahl (Pawleys Island, S.C.), Brad Cochran (Barnwell, S.C.), Clint Harbuck (Barnwell, S.C.) and Johnson.

The Eagles will find out their SAC Tournament seeding on Sunday.
