YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Young Harris College men's soccer team shut out Carson-Newman College 5-0 on Senior Day Wednesday (Oct. 26) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.

The Mountain Lions, who have scored 11 goals in their last two matches, improved to 10-5-1. The Eagles fell to 5-9-1. Young Harris wraps up its 2011 season when they travel to Thomasville, Ga., for a 1 p.m. match against Thomas (Ga.) University Saturday (Oct. 29).

Sam Walker, one of five Mountain Lions playing in their final home match of the career, wasted little time to get Young Harris in the scoring column as he headed in Illijia Ilic's initial shot that ricocheted off the crossbar in the fourth minute.

Niall McCabe scored the first of his two goals in the match in the 39th minute to give Young Harris a 2-0 lead. James Thorpe scored his first goal of the season off a through ball from teammate Martin Brain in the 60th minute before McCabe recorded another score in the 67th minute to give the Mountain Lions a 4-0 advantage. Ashley Walker closed out the scoring off a Sam Walker corner kick in the 82nd minute.

Senior Tyler Burns and Wezly Barnard teamed up to record the Mountain Lions' fourth shutout of the season. Burns tallied eight saves while Barnard had two.

In addition to Sam Walker and Tyler Burns, the Carson-Newman was the final home match for Trevor Monroe, Jacob Connelly and Angel Rivera.
