Eagles control second half to upend L-R, 2-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles scored the first two goals of the second half to break a scoreless tie at halftime, en route to beat visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University, 2-1, on Saturday evening in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-2 in SAC play and 3-5 overall. L-R falls to 3-5-1 and 0-2 in SAC play.

Forward Tyson Adkinson got the Eagles on the board in the 46th minute as his shot glanced off an L-R defender to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. The goal was Adkinson's third of the season.

C-N added its second goal in the 79th minute as Daniel Zitt, seeing his first action of the season, scored on a cross from forward Robert Hill. Zitt tapped home the hill feed for a 2-0 C-N lead with only 10 minutes left.  

Sven Picton gave L-R hope in the final minutes weaving his way through the Eagle defense for L-R's lone goal.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Lee-McRae in Jefferson City.
