Eagles fall to Belmont in Saturday exhibition

Results

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Saturday was a unique day for Carson-Newman men's tennis (4-5, 2-1 SAC) who faced off with Belmont. The Bruins (5-1, 0-0 OVC) were declared the victors in the nightcap of Belmont's day, but for Carson-Newman, it does not see any change due to Saturday being an exhibition.

For the doubles action on the day, Gabriel Dabdab (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and sophomore Ids Waterbolk (Bennekom, Netherlands) could not see success from number one singles. The pair started the day battling with Ilic and Miyamoto of the Bruins, who saw victory with a clean 6-0 sweep of the Eagles. The same result was seen from number two doubles with junior Rintaro Oka (Narita, Japan) and sophomore Marc Janse (Zeewolde, Netherlands) faltering by a score of 6-0 to Belmont's Castro and Luis.

The number three doubles match was declared as "unfinished" due to Belmont already clinching the doubles point, so the matchup progressed to singles action.

Out of the six singles matches, half of them saw actual completion. Number one singles was another defeat for Oka who fell to Ilic for the second time on the day. Janse, like his doubles partner, could not see a win go his way but his opponent was a new name. Janse was in his normal number two singles slot, where Belmont's Toledo claimed the 6-2, 6-3 victory which ultimately gave Belmont all the momentum.

The other singles action which saw a result from start to finish was number four singles with grad student Julian Froehlich (Kobenz, Austria) facing Luis for the Bruins. Luis was consistent in his matchup, winning both matches 6-2 and giving the Bruins a solid day and their fifth overall season win.

Carson-Newman returns to SAC action next week with a short trek to Harrogate, Tenn. on March 17th to face the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters.
