JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles have added junior guard Takyah Gilmore to the 2012-13 women's basketball signing class.

Gilmore joins the Lady Eagles from Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn., where she played during her freshman and sophomore seasons.

"From the first time we brought her on campus and worked her out, her athleticism is the one thing that really shined," said Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey. "She's a really nice kid and wants to work hard, and her athleticism is one of the main reasons why we wanted to bring her on board."

Gilmore averaged 12.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season at Roane State.

A native of Alcoa, Tenn., Gilmore was a standout at Alcoa High School, earning All-District and All-Region honors during her senior year as a Tornado.

Gilmore is the seventh player to join the 2012 signing class. She joins a class that includes: Jai Jai McLaughlin (Knoxville, Tenn.), Shyra Brown (Cleveland, Tenn.), Carly Pippen (Sevierville, Tenn.), Kianna Sendlacek (Cardington, Ohio), Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.), and Haley Coffelt (Tracy City, Tenn.).

"I'm excited about what we have coming in," said Mincey. "Takyah is a great addition to this class."
