Lady Eagles face rival LMU Wednesday

Carson-Newman Game Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles basketball team (9-4, 3-3 South Atlantic Conference) will host their in-state rivals the Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters (8-8, 1-5 South Atlantic Conference) at Holt Fieldhouse on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

The Lady Eagles have won two of their last three games, and are unbeaten playing at home this season, winning all five games.

"We're excited to be back home with it being a rivalry game against Lincoln Memorial," said Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey. "We're excited to go at it and try and get us another conference victory."

Carson-Newman fell in its last game at Anderson on Saturday, losing 60-46. The Lady Eagles and Trojans were tied at 32 with 13:40 to play before Anderson went on a 17-2 run over the next seven minutes to put the game out of reach.

Junior Shyra Clark (Cleveland, Tenn.) led Carson-Newman in scoring for the fourth consecutive game as she scored 14 points, and she now leads the Lady Eagles by averaging 11.7 points per contest.

She also leads the Lady Eagles in scoring average for conference games, averaging 13.5 points per game against SAC foes. She is the only Lady Eagle averaging double-digit points in conference play.

"I've been happy with her scoring and her rebounding," said Mincey on Clark. "I thought against Anderson she played really hard and I appreciated her effort especially with a bummed-up knee."

Against Anderson the Lady Eagles shot a season-low 26.9 percent from the field, Carson-Newman posted a season-low 46 points in the loss.

The Lady Eagles lead the all-time series with LMU 45-36, with Carson-Newman winning the past six meetings. The Lady Eagles have not lost to LMU at Holt Fieldhouse since the 2002-03 season.

This year's Lady Railsplitters are 8-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play and come into Wednesday's action in next-to-last place in the SAC standings. LMU, who has lost their last three games, are led in scoring by forward Kelsey Bradford with her 9.4 points per game.

"LMU is long and athletic," said Mincey. "The start that they've had is no indication of how good or bad they are. They are a quality basketball team and on any given night they can probably beat anybody in our league."

Coverage of the game is available on the Coca-Cola Eagle Sports Network, beginning with the Farm Bureau Countdown to Tipoff at 5:45 p.m. and the broadcast is also available on www.cneagles.com.
