JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Former Carson-Newman forward Bobby
Guyton (Jesup, Ga.) has signed a professional contract to play with
Aabyhoj IF in Denmark for the upcoming season.
Guyton said he is excited to have the opportunity to play
overseas.
"This is something that I've always wanted to do," Guyton said.
"All of my hard work has finally paid off. I'm looking forward to
the challenge."
Guyton played in 37 games during his C-N career. He averaged 9.9
points and 4.8 rebounds and had 17 steals and 13 blocks for the
Eagles last season. Guyton turned in his best season statistically
during his junior year, when averaged 10 points and 5.9 rebounds
per game and had 25 steals and 19 blocks.
Guyton said he is grateful for the help he received from the Eagle
coaching staff during his time at C-N.
"They did a great job of getting me prepared," he said. "(C-N)
coach (Dale) Clayton was a great mentor, and (assistant coach)
Chuck Benson was like my right-hand man. He helped me out with so
much. He told me a lot about how the game is played (overseas). I
really appreciate everything they did."
Clayton said Guyton was a valuable part of C-N's team and is
pleased to see his former player get the chance to showcase his
talents at the next level.
"He has always wanted an opportunity to play professionally,"
Clayton said. "We are excited for him to be able to do that in
Denmark. It's not only good for Bobby but it's also good for
Carson-Newman basketball any time you have a player that gets a
chance to play any level of professional basketball."
