JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men’s basketball team fell behind by double digits early in the first half and never recovered as the Eagles lost to Brevard, 76-59, on Wednesday night in South Atlantic Conference action at Holt Fieldhouse.

C-N drops to 9-15 on the season and 4-9 in the conference with the loss, which is its fifth straight. The Tornados improve to 17-7 overall and 9-4 in SAC play.

The Eagles shot just 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from the floor in the first half, as they trailed by as many as 23 points. C-N was unable to pull closer than 16 points the rest of the contest.

Brevard shot 53.4 percent (31-of-58) for the game as it dominated the paint, outscoring C-N 50-20 on the inside.

Seniors Jordan Dixon (Clinton, Tenn.) and Darron Maxtion (Huntsville, Ala.) netted 13 points apiece to lead the Eagles, while junior guard Erwin Staten (Huntsville, Ala.) tallied 11 points.

Forward Sam Carlisle (Raleigh, N.C.) fired in a game-high 23 points to lead four Tornados in double figures. Carlisle, who was 11-of-15 from the floor, also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Junior guard Josh Roper (Charlotte, N.C.) added 18 points, while Jonathan Whitson (Clyde, N.C.) and Drew Schauss (Greens Fork, Ind.) tossed in 13 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday against Lincoln Memorial in their final home game of the regular season. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at Holt Fieldhouse.
