Hay ties for fifth at the Bobcat Invitational

EATONTON, Ga- Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) finished tied for fifth place at the Bobcat Invitational, Monday in Eatonton, Ga at the Golf Club at Cuscowilla.

Hay finished round one with a one-over-par score of 71, round two with a score of 67 (-3), and a round three score of 75 (+5). Hay finished in the fifth position alongside Florida Southern College's Austin Schultz and Nova Southeastern University's Hunter O'Mahony.

C-N head men's golf coach John Minor said it was a testament to Gavin's performance that he was not only able to finish with some nationally-ranked players, but also beat some as well.

The Eagles finished in ninth place just ahead of, no. 15 West Florida College, which took 10th.

Several nationally-ranked teams finished ahead of Carson-Newman, including tournament winners no. 7 Lynn University, no. 3 South Carolina-Aiken, no. 2 Nova Southeastern University, no. 19 Armstrong Atlantic, no. 4 Florida Southern College, no. 1 Barry University, no. 10 Columbus State, and no. 18 Rollins College.

"Today's round didn't go great, however we still beat a high ranked team in the process of finishing in the top 10," Minor said.

As for the rest of the Eagles, junior Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) tied in 17th place following an even par round one 70, a one-over par (71) for round two, and a 75 (+4) for round three.

"Gavin and Jonathan played some great rounds and I am proud of the work that they put in," Minor said.

Junior Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) tied for the 48th spot with scores of 80 (+10), 70, and 73 (+3).

"Rafael had a nice comeback in round two, after he shot an even par of 70," Minor said.

Senior Michael Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) finished tied for 73rd and freshman Chase McCowan (Sevierville, Tenn.) tied for 78th.

"With Michael's 74 and Chase's 75 in round twos, we got the chance to move back up to a respectable position in the tournament," Minor said. "We did well and I am proud of the team's performance and effort that they displayed."

The Eagles will play again March 25 at the Lander University Bearcat Invitational in Greenwood, S.C.
