MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Shooting its highest round of the week with a 315, No. 12 Carson-Newman closed out its time at the Low Tide Intercollegiate with a 68-over 932 that was good enough for fifth-place.

The Eagles were 27-over in the final 18 holes of the three-round tournament. They fell one spot down the leaderboard compared to where they ended Monday. Much like the first round, the entire team accounted for five birdies in the round but it tacked on 39 bogeys with a week-low one hole higher than a bogey.

For the week, Carson-Newman's 156 holes for par were third-most in the field. It was the third-lowest scoring team on par-5s with a 7-over average of 5.12.

"Disappointing last round," Carson-Newman coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Our scores reflected a real deficit of self-belief. Our leaders did not lead and our two new players this week stepped up, especially freshman Alice Thomas. Matilda also played well for her first event. We have much work to do in our week off."

The lowest round of the day for the Orange and Blue belonged to Matilda Frövenholt (Öjersjö, Sweden), carding a 76 on Tuesday to tie for 12th at 13-over. The senior was one of two Eagles to fire a pair of birdies in the round, one coming on the par-3 2nd hole and then again on the par-3 12th, a hole she also shot for birdie on during the opening round. For the entire event, she carded 35 par holes, tying for the sixth-most.

Frövenholt's season-debut 229 total marks her new career-best 54-hole score, beating her previous best of 230 at the 2019 Sunoco/Campbell Oil Classic by one stroke.

Five shots behind Frövenholt on the leaderboard was Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland), standing alone at 22nd with an 18-over 234. The junior went a third-consecutive round without a shot under par, tallying bogeys on half of the holes she faced on the day. Her nine-over 81 on Tuesday marked the highest round of her week.

Cummins' 36 holes for par tied as the fourth-most on the week.

Similar to the first round of her C-N career on Monday, Alice Thomas (Mid Glamorgan, Wales) was six-over in the final round, giving her a 20-over 236 that landed her in a tie for 28th. The freshman shot for seven bogeys in the round with a birdie on the par-5 15th, a hole she also birdied in the second round.

Thomas tied for the second-lowest par-5 average for the week with a 3-under 4.75 clip.

Tied with Thomas by the end of Tuesday was Hannah Holland (Sale Creek, Tenn.), scoring an 80 in the final round much like she did in the first round of the week. She grabbed a pair of birdies in the round but added on eight bogeys.

Ellie Haughton (Lincolnshire, England) rounded on the team on the leaderboard at 34th, sitting 23-over par with a 239. She carded her second round of 81 for the event on Tuesday. Similar to Cummins, she shot for bogey on half of the holes she faced in the round, not seeing anything in the red.

No. 3/3 Limestone, the host team, won the event with a 32-over 896. The Saints were just three shots ahead of second-place No. 10/20 Anderson came in second with an 899. Those two sides separated themselves from the rest of the field by 26 shots with the next closest being No. 21/15 North Georgia took third at 61-over.

North Georgia's Megan Sabol was the individual champion with a five-over 221. Anderson's Kerington Lamb and Limestone's Lisa Sevenius and Pilar Martinez all landed in a tie for second at six-over.

Carson-Newman takes a week away from competition before gearing up for the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate from March 14-16 at the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
