CLEVELAND - Carson-Newman jumped into the top 35 of the Learfield Director's Cup rankings following the winter release of the standings.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
This is C-N's second-highest positioning following the release of the winter rankings, behind a 12th-place rating in the 2017-18 season. Carson-Newman set the program's record for best finish that year when it was 21st at the conclusion of the academic year.
Carson-Newman scored points from five sports in the winter, netting 50 points apiece for women's basketball's round of 32 appearance and men's swimming's 24th-place finish. Men's track, led by National Champion Andre Morrison in the 60 meters, generated 53 points with an 18th-place finish. The Women's Swim program's 28th place finish netted 45.5 points, while men's basketball got the department 25 points for appearing in the NCAA tournament.
C-N got 25 points in the fall rankings for the football program's playoff appearance.
C-N sits at 248.5 points for the year, good for third-most in the SAC behind Wingate (second overall) and Catawba (20th overall). The Eagles also have the third-most points of schools in the Southeast Region.
The final Learfield Director's Cup standings are released in June.
