Carson-Newman Places in National Swimming Rankings

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles men's and women's swimming teams are proud to announce that several Eagle swimmers are among the nation's elite in NCAA Division II national rankings following this past weekend's Fall Frenzy swimming meet.

The top times from Eagle swimmers this past weekend are a result of the hard work during the first season of intercollegiate swimming at Carson-Newman University.

"We are thankful for the opportunity to represent Carson-Newman against such strong competition," said Carson-Newman head swimming coach Paige McCord. "The athletes have worked tremendously hard this season so far."

In team relay races, Carson-Newman is ranked in the Division II Top Ten nationally, with the women in the 200-yard freestyle relay ranking 10th with a time of 1.37:01, and in the 800-yard freestyle relay the women are ninth in the nation with a time of 7:50.01.

Also the Carson-Newman men's 400-yard freestyle relay is 10th in the nation with a time of 3:06.12.

Freshman Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) is 19th in the nation in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.13. Burnett is also sixth in the nation in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.8.

Freshman Amanda Henderson (Bartlett, Tenn.) is 36th in the nation in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.00, and she is also 25th in the nation in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.20.

Junior Stephen Parsons (Auburn, Ala.) is 14th in the nation in the men's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.69.

Freshman Ethan Webster (Suwanee, Ga.) is 22nd in the nation in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:32.60.

Carson-Newman recently completed the fall portion of its schedule at the Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C.

In the women's team competition, Carson-Newman finished in sixth place with 489 points. The College of Charleston won the women's meet with 1492 points. In the men's team competition, Carson-Newman finished in ninth place with 475 points. Queens University of Charlotte won the men's meet with 1443.5 points, edging out the College of Charleston 1443.5-1440.5.
