Lady Eagles dominate Coker for second conference win

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (8-5, 2-1 SAC) women's tennis team toppled SAC opponent Coker (0-8, 0-3 SAC) 9-0 Friday afternoon at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex.

 

"I am pleased," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said, "with our intensity in doubles today and it set the tone for the whole match."

 

In doubles play, Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) and Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) beat Jessi Campos and Sarah Elliott 8-5 at no. 1. In the no. 2 and 3 spots respectively, the teams of Stefy Stand (Ecuador)/Breanne Tremblay (Canada) and Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.)/Katie Brown (Douglasville, Ga.) swept their competition 8-0.

 

Guerreiro stomped Campos 6-1, 6-2 at no. 1 singles. In the no. 2 spot, Stand stole a 6-4, 6-2 victory from Elliott. Tremblay torched Kyria Borelli at no. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2, and Sanderson beat Faith Baxley 6-2, 6-4 at no. 4.

 

Brown and Ott shut out Rachel Solomon and Adri Watford at no. 5 and 6 singles respectively.

 

The Eagles continue conference play against Catawba at home Friday, March 21 at 3 p.m.
