Queens seizes victory from Lady Eagles

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman (9-11, 2-7 SAC) women's tennis team fell 7-2 to Queens (10-2, 5-1 SAC) Sunday afternoon.

 

The team of Katie Brown (Douglasville, Ga.) and Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) contributed the Eagles' sole point in doubles play. The duo dominated Farina Rafiq and Jessee Clauson for an 8-4 decision in the no. 3 position.

 

Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) and Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) battled hard at no. 2 doubles. The team was unable to clinch the win, and dropped an 8-4 contest to Jaclyn Rock and Claire Hamilton.

 

Brown provided the Eagles' second point in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 final over Clauson. Brown has won her last 14 singles matches.

 

At no. 6 singles, Chastain was toppled in a three-setter by Rafiq 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.

 

The Lady Eagles pause conference play and fly home for a match against North Georgia Wednesday at noon. Stay tuned to see if Brown can seal her 15th consecutive victory!
