JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team (2-2, 1-0 SAC) picked up its first win in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex with a 7-2 victory over the visiting Mars Hill Lions (3-6, 0-4 SAC).

The Eagles won all three doubles points and followed that up with four of the six singles points to propel themselves to the win.

"We played a solid match from start to finish. Really never gave Mars Hil la chance to get back in the match," coach Jean Love said.

Freshman Mallory Jackson (Erwin, Tenn.) and Jill Corsato-Owsianka (Düsseldorf, Germany) took the first doubles point with a tight 8-6 victory over the Lions' number one team. The number two team consisting of Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) and Sydney Ledington (Corbin, Ky.) nearly swept their opponents with a 8-1 set win. Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) and Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished off the sweep with another 8-6 win.

The duo of Guerreiro and Ott are now a combined 4-0 this season in doubles play, while Ledington and Sanderson won their first set as a doubles team.

Corsato, Guerreiro, Sanderson and junior Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) all four picked up singles wins for the Eagles.

Corsato dropped just one game during her two sets as she won 6-1, 6-0. Guerreiro followed up her German teammate's performance by losing just two games as she knocked off her opponent 6-2, 6-0. Sanderson played in one of the more competitive matches of the afternoon as she knocked off Juliana Fisher 6-1, 6-3.

Guerreiro is now 3-1 on the season in singles play and Chastain won her first singles match of 2015.
