JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Several of Carson-Newman's sprinters reached Saturday's finals to kickstart day one of the Buccaneer Invitational at the ETSU Athletics Complex.

In the men's 60-meter dash, Toot Johnson (Rincon, Ga.) and Cortavious Garrett (Greenwood, Fla.) reached the finals with times of 6.95 seconds and 7.00 seconds in the semifinals of the sprint, respectively. Johnson earned second place overall in the prelims with a 6.98 second time.

In the women's division of the 200-meter dash, sophomore Abby Hegarty reached the finals with a speed of 25.93 seconds – a new personal record.

"A great first day," head coach David Needs said. "To place quite a few people in the finals was a great start. I thought that Abby and Cortavious took a big step forward making the finals."

In the men's 200, sprinter Devon Moore (Baxley, Ga.) continued to rack up a string of first-place finishes, qualifying first overall for tomorrow's finals with a time of 21.69 seconds. Johnson will race alongside his teammate in the 200 after he placed sixth overall in the prelims with a time of 22.22 seconds.

In the men's 400 meters, Caleb Agee (Floyd, Va.) earned a spot in the finals after a 50.30 second mark that ranked seventh among the 57 competitors in the event.

"Toot, Devon and Caleb continued to show the consistency that has defined them this season," Needs said. "They bring such a high level of excellence each time."

In the field, graduate student Hannah Moorhouse (Morristown, Tenn.) earned second place in the finals high jump with a mark of 1.60m.

Finals for Saturday's 60-meter dash is set for 3 p.m. for the men. The 200 finals are set for 3:45 p.m. for the women and 3:55 p.m. for the men. 400 finals are slated at 3:20 p.m.
