Moore notches second-career SAC Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the second time in his career, Devon Moore earned the South Atlantic Conference's Track Athlete of the Year winning the laurel for his indoor season in 2019-20 announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Moore, a sprinter, earned the outdoor honor a season ago bringing the program's overall tally up to seven. The 2018-19 academic year was the first year that conference went to a vote instead of the highest overall point winner from the meet so Moore has won two of three given out under the new format.

Randall Freeman and Tiana Mills each won the outdoor honors in 2014 and Kris Potts-Howard netted the indoor laurel in 2018. Luke Greer was named the Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year during the 2019 Championship meet and Jahvad McDermott earned the plaudit in the 2019 Indoor Championship event.

Despite the NCAA Indoor National Championships getting cancelled due to Covid-19, Moore produced an elite season. In 2019-20, he entered the postseason field with the fourth-fastest time in the country in the 60 using his 6.69, his career best, at the Finn Pincus Invitational on Jan. 24, 2020.

In the 200, he entered the championships with the 10th best time in the country posting a spring-best of 21:24 at the VMI Indoor Classic on Feb. 14, 2020. He took home SAC titles in both events this season.

The junior was named the SAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week three times this season tallying the program's first Indoor U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week on Jan. 14. He earned the same honor during outdoor season in 2019.

The Baxley, Ga. native registered a mark of 6.71 seconds in the 60, the second-fastest time in the sprint among all Division II athletes at the time. It came during Moore's first event after rejoining the team after the conclusion of the football season in the ETSU Invitational.

Moore won two SAC titles in the indoor season besting Lenoir-Rhyne's PJ Lotharp in the 60 by with a 6.76 time. He shaved over a half second off of his preliminary run in the 200 meters to topple Tusculum's Widchard Guervil with a time of 21.73.

Overall, Moore has netted four All-American honors producing a pair of first-team selections at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships in 100 meter and 200 meter runs. He has been named all-region on four occasions.
