Tom Read Named Preseason All-American by HERO Sports

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – HERO Sports has published their list of Division II men's soccer All-Americans and Carson-Newman midfielder Tom Read has been named to the second team.

"It's a big achievement personally," Read said. "It's more of an achievement for last season. We've got this season ahead of us."

Read was one of the main cogs in Carson-Newman's offensive attack last year, totaling 32 points which led the South Atlantic Conference. He also logged 16 assists, which not only led the conference, but placed him third nationally in Division II. Furthermore, his mark of 16 assists in 18 games gave him a per-game assist average of 0.89, which was tops in the country at the D-II level.

For his efforts, Read was named first-team All-SAC and second-team All-Region by the D2CCA and the NSCAA. He also helped lead his squad to a share of the South Atlantic Conference title.

"It's really all about the team," Read said. "The team helped me get this recognition. Most of my assists came from good finishes by my teammates. We had great players last season. We have great players this season. Hopefully we can do better this season.

Read is a native of London, England who is in his second season in Orange and Blue. He is at Carson-Newman pursuing his MBA.

Read and his teammates open their season on September 3rd at McCown Field with a 7:30pm contest against Lees-McRae.
