JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn – A goal off a set piece in the 84th minute by Phillip Hollenhorsrt broke a goalless tie and provided the only scoring in a 1-0 victory for the Catawba College Catawba Indians over the Carson-Newman men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at McCown Field.

The Eagles record is now 6-5 and they stand at 2-4 in the South Atlantic Conference. Catawba stretches their win streak to five and is 5-2 in the SAC with a 7-3 overall mark.

The sequence that led to the goal started with Catawba in possession of the ball on the Eagles side of the field near the left corner flag. Steven Parry (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) was called for a foul, giving the Catawba Indians a free kick. Jack Ragen took the kick and his ball found Hollenhorst at the front post and the junior headed it past Joe Boyd (Nottingham, England) for the match's only tally. This marked the first time Carson-Newman has been shutout since September 4th, 2014.

Both teams had chances to take the lead in the first half, but were unable to capitalize. Boyd continued his stellar play off C-N's win over King (Tenn.), making three saves and his back line helped him fend off several Catawba chances. The Eagles opportunities were similarly repelled by Catawba's fullbacks as a defensive stalemate developed.

The most noteworth play of the first half came in the 32nd minute, when a ball was sent into the 18-yard box with Tobias Solem Karlsen (Kongsvinger, Norway) in pursuit. The Catawba goalie, Joe Gonzalez, came out to play the ball and the two players collided. The referee issued Karlsen a red card, forcing C-N to play the rest of the match with ten men.

In the second half, despite being down a man, the Eagles continued pushing for the go-ahead score. They sent in three of the first four shots of the half and five of the first seven. C-N was unable to put anything across, however, and the scoresheet remained empty until Hollenhorst's winning strike.

On Wednesday, the Eagles will attempt to rebound when they welcome Young Harris to McCown Field for a 5pm match-up. The game will be broadcast live on cneagles.com/live with Mark Inserra on the call. Live stats will also be available and the recap will be published on cneagles.com.
