Men’s soccer gets two All-SAC honors

2023 All-SAC Teams

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman men's soccer's Ben Dukes (Southampton, England) and Maxime Wester (Brussel, Belgium) were named to the South Atlantic Conference third team, the conference announced earlier today.

Every season under Stephen Lyons, he has coached multiple players to all-conference honors. Both the players recognized this season were in their first years with Carson-Newman.

Dukes transferred to Carson-Newman from Connecticut and was able to make an immediate impact on the offensive end, which led to him securing his first career honor.

The forward scored all three of his goals in a four-game stretch this season. His first career goal was the game-winner against Emory & Henry on Sept 20. He then scored a goal in a 2-2 tie with Mars Hill, followed up by scoring the only goal in C-N's 1-0 shutout of Newberry to end September.

The sophomore also had a pair of assists to his stat line for the year. He assisted on C-N's go-ahead goal against Young Harris on Sept 6. His other assist helped the Eagles tie with Catawba on Oct 14.

Wester earned his first career honor after scoring two goals in his rookie campaign. The freshman was all over the field this season and was utilized in a multitude of ways.

He scored his first goal with 29 seconds left against Emory & Henry in a 3-0 win. The second goal came in the regular season finale with 70 seconds left to secure a 3-1 rivalry win versus Tusculum.

The Brussel, Belgium native played nearly 1,300 minutes as a freshman, the third-most minutes on the squad. He was one of seven players to start in at least 14 of Carson-Newman's 17 matches this season.
