KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior midfielder Kristina Markfort (Munster, Germany) was named as a second-team honoree on the Women's Scholar All-South Region list, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Monday.

The academic award honors student-athletes by region from across the country. It is the first time that Markfort has been tabbed for the honor.

Earlier in the year, Markfort was named to the All-SAC Second Team selections for her play on the pitch this season.

Studying business administration, Markfort holds a 3.44 GPA and is one of 11 players that earned All-Region honors across the three teams.

"Kristina was a vital part of our team this year," head coach Simon Duffy said. "She scored some fantastic goals, and created a lot of chances for us. I'm delighted to see that her ambition on the pitch is equaled with that in the classroom. She deserves this award and I'm very proud of her."

She scored three goals on the season – including a game-winner in the regular season against Queens – and added four assists for a total of 10 points. She registered 30 shots in total, with 14 falling on frame.

A consistent starter, the midfielder was one of three players to start in every contest for C-N, logging 1,387 minutes across all 17 contests. In the entirety of the 2019 season, she played in 90 percent of the team's total minutes (1,554). Her minutes played in her third season as an Eagle nearly match her career total between the previous two seasons of 1,437, respectively.

Previously playing as a defender throughout most of her career, the junior made the move up the pitch and delivered with success. A sure-footed player with the ball, the 6-1 Markfort has the unique ability to possess and evade defenders while on the run.

The scholar All-American list will be announced Wednesday by the USC.
