Eagles Fall in Tightly Contested SAC Opener

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (2-3, 0-1 SAC) dropped a close contest against Lenoir-Rhyne (6-1, 2-1 SAC), 4-3.

In singles, the Eagles conceded four of the six matches but secured wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles. In a tightly contested match, three of the six matches went to three sets, including Anita Chornei's match in the No. 2 singles slot, where she bounced back despite falling behind early to win her match.

No. 1: Runa Muderrisoglu (LR) def. Natasha Forrest (C-N), 6-3/6-0

No. 2: Anita Chornei (C-N) def. Claudia Orsini (LR), 4-6/6-4/6-4

No. 3: Alicia Wahlberg (LR) def. Summer Reeves (C-N), 6-3/2-6/7-5

No. 4: Nellie Wahlberg (LR) def. Suryanshi (C-N), 7-6/6-2

No. 5: Alexa Allison (LR) def. Sindija Manovska (C-N), 3-6/6-1/6-4

No. 6: Leah McBride (C-N) def. Jessica Fuchs (LR), 6-4/6-4

Despite the loss, C-N showed improvement on the doubles front, earning the point and winning two of the three matches. The All-SAC duo of Natasha Forrest and Summer Reeves won in the No. 1 slot, while freshmen Leah McBride and Suryanshi secured the point with a win in the No. 3 doubles spot.
