Track and Field opens season at Tiger Indoor

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's men's and women's track and field teams will be on display for the first time this year at the Tiger Indoor Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn.

The Eagles look for another stellar season from junior long jumper Cassadine Blassingame.  He brought home golf medals in the event five times a year ago and is the reigning southeast region champion in the event.

On the women's side Jessica Azor returns for her sophomore year after a silver medal finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the southeast region event.

"Sewanee should be a great trip to show our men and women where they are," Carson-Newman head track and field coach David Needs said.  "It will be great to compete and see our new athletes in competition. We're excited to have to have Shauntae Miller and really look forward to seeing her run."

Miller is Needs' highly touted recruit from the Bahamas.  She is the sister of 2012 Bahamanian Olympic participant Shaunae Miller.

The meet Saturday begins at 10 a.m.
