Van Gog and Borden Give Eagles Top Ten Finishes at the Golden Eagle Invitational

 

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Carson-Newman's women's cross country team finished fourth, men fifth at the Golden Eagle Cross Country invitational.

The women's team had three runners finishing within the top 20. Imke Van Gog placed fifth with a time of 23:58.2 in the 6K race. Freshman Grace Lathrop earned her second 11th place finish of the season with a time of 24:33.0. Katie Smock finished in 16th place with a time of 25:02.5.

Freshman Ashley Tuell finished 29th overall in the race with a time of 26:04.3. Fellow freshman Maggie Hope was not far behind Tuell, finishing 33rd overall with a time of 27:23.7. Autumn Brazzell rounded up the race for the Eagles, finishing 29th with a time of 28:59.6.  

Tennessee Tech took home the first-place honors with a score of 23 in the women's 6K. Murray State followed the Golden Eagles with a score of 65. In third place, UT-Martin finished with a score of 85.

Three Golden Eagles placed within the top five, headlined by first-place runner Ruby Wyles. Wyles finished with a time of 23:07.4. She placed 37 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, Ruth Kimutai of Murray State.

On the men's side, Brent Borden continued his excellent start to the season, racking up another top-ten finish. He finished seventh in the race with a time of 26:24.9 to earn a score of seven for his team. Raymond Brugmans was close behind, finishing 20th with a time of 27:24.9.

Will Kolb managed to take over a full second off his previous season best, finishing 35th with a time of 28:38.7. Hunter Miller was close on his tail, finishing 38th overall with a time of 28:56.3 to earn a score of 33 for his team.

Kirby Logan III finished 49th overall with a time of 30.21.4. Freshman Andrew Thompson placed 50th with a time of 30:36.4. Thompson finished nine seconds faster than his previous race at the Fleet Feet Invitational two weeks ago.

Junior Trent Lovelace placed 57th with a time of 31:44.8.

Benjamin White saw a massive improvement in his second race of the season. Two weeks ago, at the Fleet Feet Invitational, White ran a 43:46.3 8K. On Friday night, White finished with a time of 36:59.9, good enough for 66th place.

 The University of Tennessee at Martin took home first place with a total score of 33. The Host team, Tennessee Tech, placed second with a score of 43. Murray State rounded out the top three with a score of 84.

The top three battled down to the wire, but Will Cahill took home first place with a time of 25:42.0. The battle for second was neck and neck, but Miceal McCaul of Tennessee Tech managed to get the edge with a time of 25:45.3. TN-Martin's Luke Mcnair finished third with a time of 25:45.9.

The Eagles will get a full two-week break before they return to action at the Asics Invitational in Morrow, Georgia.
