Fall Frosty Awards Nominees: Female Performance of the Year

From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester.  These are the fall nominees for Female Performance of the Year. On Sunday, we'll unveil the candidates for Female Athlete of the Year. 

The 10th annual Frosty Awards will take place May 2 and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Sydnee Duncan (WSOC vs Wingate): Duncan recorded two goals in the Eagles' 3-1 win over previously unbeaten Wingate. The sophomore only had two shots in the match, with both finding the back of the net. Both goals scored came off deflections in the box, as the midfielder found herself in the right spot at the right time. It's the third time Duncan has scored multiple goals in a game. Following her performance, she was named South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. 

Abbie Zander (WSOC at Bluefield St): Zander had a career day in the Eagles dominant 5-0 win over Bluefield State. The junior assisted on three of C-N's goals and scored another. She had three shots in the match, with two of those shots sent on target. 

Laura Germes (WSOC at Catawba): The freshman played a crucial role in C-N's tie with #8 Catawba. Facing one of the nation's top offenses, Germes recorded a season and career high seven saves and limited the Lady Indians to just one goal. Four of her seven saves came in the first 12 minutes of action. 

Maeve Cummins (WGOLF City with Spirit): Graduate student Maeve Cummins led the Eagles at the City with Spirit Classic. She fired an opening round 4-over 76. She caught fire in the second round of action going 2-under through 16 holes, before making a bogey on the final two holes to finish with an even-par 72. The Waringstown, Northern Ireland native, fired a 5-over 77 on the final day of competition. She recorded one birdie, on hole six, a 139-yard par three. She finished the tournament tied for 4th place. It's the 12th time that Cummins has finished inside the top 5 in her career.

Julia Wheeler at Limestone: In a four-set victory at Limestone on Sept. 10, Julia Wheeler matched a career-high with an outrageous 27 kills making just four mistakes on a .348 attack percentage. She added 18 digs for a third straight double-double. The 27 smashes tied her output against Mars Hill in a five-set match on Oct. 12, 2021.It tied the program's tally for the second-most in a match since 2004 withMolly Locke, who did so against Quincy on Sept. 4, 2015 in a five-set win. Carly Mozgaiholds the program record for kills in a match with 29 in five sets on Nov. 12, 2010 against Catawba.

Julia Wheeler vs Alabama Huntsville: In the first match of the year, Wheeler racked up 22 kills and 14 digs hitting .255 in a four-set win over the Chargers. It was one of the 16 matches where the senior outside hitter had at least 20 blasts and one of the four efforts where she added a double-double.

Julia Wheeler vs North Greenville: In the team's seventh straight victory, the Murfreesboro, Tenn. native led all players with 22 kills hitting .264 with a dozen digs to guide the Eagles to a five-set win over the Crusaders. 

Abbey Hildenbrand vs LMU: In a sweep of the Railsplitters, the Parker, Colo. finished a kill shy of a triple-double for the second time in her career tallying 14 assists, 10 digs and nine kills hitting .562 for the night. She set season highs for kills, hitting percentage and points to guide the club to a sixth straight sweep.

Manon Compagner at Tennessee Invitational (swim): Compagner left the three-day Tennessee Invitational with two new personal records, three new school records, and three national qualifying times. In the 50-yard freestyle, Compagner competed in the finals and set a personal and school record in 22.89. She also rewrote the history books in the 100-yard freestyle during the prelims with a time of 49.47. Compagner now holds the first, third, fourth, and sixth fastest recorded times in the women's 100-yard freestyle for the Eagles. The women secured national cuts in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.28), 400-yard medley relay (3:44.84), and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:23.35), all of which Compagner contributed a leg. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Eagles broke the school record from 2017 set at 3:24.32. 

Kyla Blakemore v Lees McRae (swim): Blakemore secured two national qualifying times against Lees-McRae on Nov. 12 in the women's 200-yard backstroke (2:01.33) and 200-yard medley relay (1:42.79). In her leg of the relay, Blakemore finished with a time of 25.86. Racing with Blakemore in the event were teammates Breanna Belcher, Manon Compagner, and Kennadi King. Blakemore placed first in both of her national cut events after racing the day before against Milligan. Her efforts resulted in her being named South Atlantic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for the fifth week of the season.

Imke Van Gog (XC Regionals): Van Gog finished 11th out of 147 at the NCAA Southeast D2 Regionals with a time of 22:31.1. The sophomore beat her previous personal best in a 6K race by almost a complete minute. The result notched Van Gog her first career All-Region accolade two weeks after earning All-Conference
