Male Newcomer of the Year

Major Williams (Football): A first team All-SAC selection, Williams finished third on the team in tackles and second in the SAC in tackles amongst defensive backs.  The UVA transfer finished the year with 49 tackles and five stops for loss.  The five tackles for loss are the second-most in C-N history among defensive backs behind All-American safety Darius Williams' 7.5 in 2019. Williams had a career-high seven tackles on four occasions against Limestone (9/17), Lenoir-Rhyne (9/24), Newberry (10/1) and Catawba (11/12).  Those were among five games where he had at least five tackles. Williams had two picks on the year, both of which were against Erskine (10/15). He brought back one of those interceptions 28 yards for a defensive touchdown.

Monty Johal (Men's Basketball): Monty Johal has started all 12 games at the break for the men's basketball program and averages 10.8 points per game with a 50.5/41.5/79.2 slash line. Johal has produced double-digit scoring in eight games for C-N. The Eagles are a perfect 8-0 when he scores 10 or more.

Ben Beeker (Men's Basketball): At the Christmas break, Ben Beeker is the most efficient shooter in the South Atlantic Conference. Beeker has averaged 7.2 points per game off the bench while shooting a league-leading 69.4 percent from the field. He has a trio of double-digit scoring efforts, including a career-high 14 at Clayton State.

Ivan Corbin (Football): Carson-Newman's starting quarterback, Corbin led C-N in rushing in 2022 with 537 yards and seven touchdowns. Through the air he was 111-for-220 for 1,529 yards and 13 more scores.  He got hot late, finishing his career with three straight 200-yard passing games, the first Eagle to do that since 2016.

Mike Peppin (Football): Peppin recovered from an early knee injury to start the final six games of the season for Carson-Newman. The Florida native helped clear the way for four Eagles to rush for more than 400 yards and two to earn All-SAC honors.  Additionally, Carson-Newman ranked second in the SAC in fewest tackles for loss allowed and only gave up 1.5 sacks per game on the season.  Peppin wrapped up the year with an average grade of 86.66 and 30 knockdowns.  He graded out with a season-high 91 against Emory & Henry and had a season-best seven knockdowns against Tusculum.

Tyler Curtis (Football): Curtis finished third on the team in rushing yardage.  He tallied 436 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. His most productive game came in the regular season finale at Catawba when he found the end zone twice and rushed for 103 yards on 11 carries. He had his longest rush of the season that game - a 40-yarder for six.

Brent Borden (XC): The graduate transfer was the highest finishing Eagle in five out of six races for Carson-Newman's cross country team. Borden recorded his best time at the University of Alabama at Huntsville Invitational with a time of 25:28.6 in the 8K race that featured 50 schools and over 450 runners. Borden led the Eagles to their best finish at regionals since the 2003 season with a time of 33:10.5 in the 10K race, good enough for 43rd place.

Willem Kruijk (Men's Soccer): Kruijk was Carson-Newman men's soccer's lone second team all-conference selection this season. He recorded a team best six assists this season. The senior assisted on two of the Eagles three goals in a win over #14 Mars Hill. Both of Kruijk's goals this season were game-winners.

Hayden Hunneke (Men's Golf): In first fall season with the Eagles, Hunneke led C-N with a 72.3 scoring average, while playing in all 12 rounds. He opened up the fall season shooting a 3-under 67. He matched that 67 later in the fall, at the 2022 McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate, in the final round. His second 3-under 67 of the fall helped him finish second at the event, his highest finish during the fall season.
