Fall Frosty Awards Nominees: Male Freshman of the Year

From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester.  These are the fall nominees for Male Freshman of the Year. Tuesday, we'll unveil the candidates for Female Freshman of the Year. 

The 10th annual Frosty Awards will take place May 2 and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Male Freshman of the Year

Frank Lee (Football): A terror on Carson-Newman's defensive line, Lee finished the year ranked eighth in the SAC in sacks and seventh in tackles for loss.  He had 39 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks.  Lee also registered a team-high four quarterback hurries and had eight pass breakups leaping at the line.  Lee maxed out with a career-high eight tackles at Emory & Henry.  He also had a season-best five solo stops against the Wasps.  He had at least five tackles in five of C-N's games. The freshman tallied multiple tackles for loss in three games, topping out at 4.5 against Erskine – the seventh-most in a game in school history.  He garnered TSWA State Defensive Player of the Week honors following that game.  He also notched a sack and a pass break up against the Fleet.

Kendall Williams (Football): Kendall Williams only made 22 tackles on the season, but impacted opposing passing offenses in a major way by redirecting 15 passes - top 10 nationally in passes defensed.  He also picked off a pass on the season.

Colt Sinor (Football): The sophomore offensive lineman fully recovered from stage-four testicular cancer to earn Academic All-District honors.  The utility knife of an offensive lineman started five games at left guard and a game at center.  He helped clear the way for four Eagles to rush for more than 400 yards and two to earn All-SAC honors. Additionally, Carson-Newman ranked second in the SAC in fewest tackles for loss allowed and only gave up 1.5 sacks per game on the season.

Tyree Nelson (Football): Carson-Newman's fourth-leading rusher in 2022, Nelson was nicked up in the middle of the year, but still recovered to rush for 41.1 yards per game and 411 yards on 76 carries.  He had a team-best 5.4 yards per rush.  He also caught 12 passes for 75 yards.  Nelson led Carson-Newman in all-purpose yardage for the year.  He finished the year with 893 yards when one factors in his 407 kick return yards. 

Jake Cottle (Football): Jake Cottle inserted himself into the starting linebacking corps the final four games of his freshman career. He finished fifth on the team with 43 tack;es, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack.  He also had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.  

Cade Meeks (Football): Carson-Newman's second-leading receiver for the year, Meeks tallied 209 yards receiving on 13 receptions and two scores. He saved his best performance for the finale when he had two catches for 65 yards and a touchdown against Catawba.   

Arthur Gluzman (swim): Gluzman ends his first semester at Carson-Newman with six first-place finishes and four new personal records. In his debut for the Eagles, Gluzman began with two-first place finishes against Emory & Henry in the 100 SC meter freestyle (52.49) and 200 SC meter medley relay (1:46.40). Gluzman recorded a personal best in the 100-yard freestyle at the Emory Invitational with a time of 46.03 only to best himself again in the Tennessee Invitational where he touched the wall in 45.07. The Tennessee Invitational continued for three days where Gluzman posted personal records in the 50-yard freestyle (20.48) and 100-yard backstroke (50.27). When the Eagles hosted Milligan and Lees-McRae consecutive days, Gluzman left with three first-place finishes, two in the 50-yard freestyle event and one in the 100-yard freestyle. The Eagles swam their last meet of 2022 against Emory & Henry on Dec. 10 where Gluzman swam for gold again in the 50-yard freestyle.

Colten Lee (XC): Lee earned Freshman All-Conference honors after finishing 24th at the SAC Championships with a time of 26:58.6. Lee was the highest finishing Eagle, and just the third freshman in the entire race to cross the line. Lee's best time of the season was at the University of Alabama in Huntsville Invitational where he finished with a time of 26:50.2 in a race with 50 schools and over 450 runners.

Issac Pascal (Men's Soccer): As the season went on, the freshman continued to carve himself a role for the Eagles. He appeared in 11 games, making six starts. He started the final four games of the season for the Eagles. Pascal recorded one assist this season, It came on C-N's lone goal against Tusculum on Oct 26.
