Free admission for evacuees, hurricane relief efforts announced for Saturday’s football game

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's athletic department will provide free admission to any evacuee to Saturday night's home game with Wingate who has been displaced by Hurricane Florence. 

Any South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia or Maryland resident presenting an ID with an address from an evacuated county will be admitted to the contest for free.  Those individuals should go to the ticket window on the north side of the stadium to present their ID to claim free admission. 

The following counties and areas have been effected:

Dare County, the order included the towns of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, Roanoke Island and all of the Dare County mainland. The evacuation order also encompassed Hatteras Island, in the southern part of the Outer Banks.

Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Beaufort, Barnwell, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Colleton, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry, Jasper, Lexington, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg, Richland, Sumter and Williamsburg Counties along the South Carolina coast. 

Finally, in Virginia, the lowest-lying area of Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore and Coastal Virginia has been evacuated. 

Carson-Newman's Student Affairs Division will be collecting cash donations on Saturday at both the tailgate parties and the football game itself. If you donate by check, make it payable to "Carson-Newman University," and put "Disaster Relief," on the memo.

Carson-Newman football has declared Saturday's home game with Wingate a "Fog Out."

Fans are encouraged to wear gray when the Eagles take on the defending SAC champions Saturday night at 7 from Burke-Tarr Stadium on ESPN 3 in an NCAA Division II Showcase Game.  The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive a free gray "Fog Out" t-shirt. 

Carson-Newman football is trying to set a new Burke-Tarr Stadium attendance record.  The current mark is 5,378, set against Tusculum during the 2007 season.
