VIDEO: Demitri Saulsberry Interview
AUSTIN, Texas – Carson-Newman football junior running back Demitri Saulsberry (St. Mary's, Ga.) has pulled in Google Cloud Academic All-District honors for Super Region II, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday afternoon.
Saulsberry is the seventh player in the last three years to earn Academic All-District honors. C-N's football program is trying to produce an Academic All-American for a third straight year after tight end Kooper Davis' selection in 2016 and running back Jared Dillingham's last year.
Saulsberry majors in business management at Carson-Newman and carries a 3.31 GPA.
"It all comes down to time management," Saulsberry said. "You have to come in and start fast as a freshman. Luckily, I did that. You just have to maintain a schedule. At the end of the day, it comes down to having your priorities straight."
On the field, Saulsberry was Carson-Newman's sixth leading rusher for the Eagles' vaunted split-back veer option attack. He tallied 30 carries for 252 yards and four scores. He managed a beefy 8.4 yards per carry for the year en route to averaging 36.0 yards rushing per game.

The junior had a career long run of 75 yards for a score in the Eagles' regular season finale against UNC Pembroke. The Pembroke game was overall one of Saulsberry's more productive games on the ground. He had four carries for 86 yards and the one score.
Against Virginia-Lynchburg, Saulsberry had his first multi-touchdown day. He also rushed seven times for 51 yards against the Dragons.
Saulsberry advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
Saulsberry is looking to join Dillingham and Randall Freeman as C-N running backs with Academic All-America status. Saulsberry could be the program's ninth Academic All-American overall.
Chris Horton (1993 and 1994), Keith Ackard (1999 and 2000), Curt Duncan (2012), Randall Freeman (2014), Kooper Davis (2016) and Jared Dillingham (2017) all have represented the Eagles in the past.
