GREENWOOD, Ind. – Anthony Marcinelli has been awarded for his academic success by landing on the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team for a second consecutive season, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
He became the first player in program history to receive the distinction last year. He has now joined a small list of just three golfers from the South Atlantic Conference to be named an Academic All-District selection multiple times in their career. The last to do so was Tusculum's Nick Forsberg in 2015 and 2016.
Award winners are recognized by CoSIDA as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. He is one of the 11 recipients from the district made up of student-athletes from Conference Carolinas, Peach Belt and the South Atlantic Conference.
This latest laurel gives Marcinelli five major academic distinctions in his career, including the 2018 SAC Elite 20 Award, 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America and 2018 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America honors.
The Knoxville, Tenn.-native competed in four events for the Orange and Blue this season, averaging a six-over clip of 77.6. His best outing of the year came at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, where he tied for 19th with a three-over 54-hole score of 219. He carded a season-low 72 twice in the event.
In the classroom, Marcinelli held a 4.0 GPA through his pursuit for a Master of Business Administration, giving him three degrees in four years. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2018 with a pair of degrees in Accounting and Finance/Economics, obtaining a 4.0 GPA in both, as well.
He made the Dean's List as Carson-Newman in all four years of his career while also receiving Gold Eagle Scholar status each year. He received numerous other academic achievement nods from Carson-Newman, alone, including being named an Outstanding Business Graduate, President's Academic Award, Male Academic Athlete of the Year in 2017-18 and the Academic Excellence Award for the men's golf team from 2016 to 2018. He was also a finalist for the SAC Scholar-Athlete award this season.
With the All-District laurel, Marcinelli advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. Those winners will be announced in June.
