JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Men's Tennis heads into the week with its biggest test of the season facing its third ITA-ranked opponent in as many matches.
Carson-Newman (4-2, 2-1 South Atlantic Conference) begins the week with the first-ever meeting against No. 21 Purdue Northwest (11-3, 1-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) who enters the week as winners of seven-straight with a meeting against Tusculum prior to facing the Eagles
The Eagles clash with the Pride at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 18 at the Charles A. "Buddy" Catlett Tennis Complex.
C-N resumes its conference slate, at home, the next day against Tusculum (4-6, 2-2 SAC), which bounced back with a sweep of Coker after dropping back-to-back matches against nationally-ranked Lincoln Memorial and UIndy.
Finally, Coker (3-9, 1-4 SAC) comes to Jefferson City for a 2 p.m. first serve time on Saturday, Mar. 22. The Cobras face Emory & Henry in a road contest before taking on Carson-Newman to end a four-match road trip.
Purdue Northwest – The Pride look to Joao Martins in singles play going 5-3 in the spring season mostly excelling from the No. 4 flight while No. 1 singles flight Alex Miguel van Lumich Lozano is 4-1 in the top slot thus far this season.
PNW excels in doubles action with its most common No. 1 and No. 3 flights both only taking one loss in the spring season with pairings of Samuel Dickinson and van Lumich Luzano, and Daniel Sroka and Daniel Chicano i Melero, respectively.
Tusculum – While TU may not have had the best start to the season, singles are emphasized by Miles Ray out of the No. 5 flight who has gone 6-3 in the spring.
In doubles, Tusculum has seen its most victories come from the No. 3 pairing of Angelos Avgeris and Nathan Matsuguma.
No. 46 Coker – The Cobras have dropped six of its last seven matches with the lone win in that stretch coming against Limestone. While Coker has struggled to get point production it does find some consistency from its doubles action where it took the point against No. 44 UVA Wise.
The pairing of Samuel Winter and Benedikt Wittmann particularly impressed in the match against the Cavaliers with a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 flight.
All matches this week will begin at 2 p.m. at the Charles A. "Buddy" Catlett Tennis Complex where, as always, admission is free.
