HARROGATE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman won the doubles point for the fourth straight match, but dropped its second straight in a road contest at No. 27 Lincoln Memorial.  

Carson-Newman (7-5, 5-3 South Atlantic Conference) took the doubles point just as it had did in its previous match against No. 11 Wingate, but for the second straight match were swept in singles play to fall 4-1, this time to rival No. 27 Lincoln Memorial (19-4, 7-2 SAC).

The best fight in singles came from Louis Keenan on Court No. 3 splitting the first two sets with a 6-1 decision going in each direction. Keenan was trailing in set three, 3-2 before the clinching point for the Railsplitters caused the match to be abandoned.

 

Singles featured three set tiebreakers, with the Eagles failing to clinch any of those scenarios.

No. 1: Radu Florea (LMU) def. Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) 7-6, 6-2

No. 2: Alexandru Giurea (LMU) def. Gjorgji Jankulovski (C-N) 6-2, 6-2

No. 3: Kai Miyatake (LMU) vs. Louis Keenan (C-N) 1-6, 6-1, 3-2, unfinished

No. 4: Harper Mills (LMU) def. Paul Gayk (C-N) 7-6, 6-4

No. 5: Franco Battaglino (LMU) vs. Matthew Saunders (C-N) 5-3, unfinished

No. 6: Ethan Hirons (LMU) def. Leonard Baecker (C-N) 6-2, 7-6

 

The Eagles have not lost doubles since the Tusculum match, now five matches in the past. The Eagles took the point in a tiebreaker on Court No. 2 with the duo of Paul Gayk and Marnix Van Dalen taking the tiebreaker and the point from the Railsplitters.

No. 1: Gjorgji Jankulovski/Louis Keenan (C-N) def. Alexandru Giurea/Hugo Ruiz Espejo (LMU) 6-3

No. 2: Paul Gayk/Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) def. Harper Mills/Sergio Boneta-Aranzeta (LMU) 7-6

No. 3: Radu Florea/Ethan Hirons (LMU) def. Matthew Saunders/Leonard Baecker (C-N) 6-1

The win gives C-N its first of a busy week that will see it play five matches in six days, with the only rest day coming on Thursday. The Eagles' next match will be Senior Day on Friday, April 4, with a 2 p.m. start against Johnson (Tenn.).
