Men's Tennis Falls to No. 11 Wingate

MONROE, N.C. – Carson-Newman Men's Tennis put up a fight against its toughest match of the season, but fell 4-1 to No. 11 Wingate.

Carson-Newman (7-4, 5-2 South Atlantic Conference) took the doubles point in two tight flights, but it was No. 11 Wingate (11-1, 7-1 SAC) taking the first four singles flights to clinch the 4-1 victory.

The Bulldogs came out with a vengeance in singles, taking all four finished flights despite strong fights from the Eagles.

 

In singles, Marnix Van Dalen (Netherlands) was caught in a battle on Court No. 1 with Gabriel Constantino winning the first set 6-3, but the match took so long the second set never finished before the clinching point for Wingate.

SINGLES RESULTS

No. 1: #74 Gabriel Constantino (WU) vs. Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) 3-6, 2-1, unfinished

No. 2: #71 Florian Walcher (WU) def. Gjorgji Jankulovski (C-N) 6-2, 6-3

No. 3: Carlo Rosellini (WU) vs. Paul Gayk (C-N) 6-2, 5-3, unfinished

No. 4: Luka Brown (WU) def. Louis Keenan (C-N) 6-3, 6-1

No. 5: Rodrigo De la Torre (WU) def. Matthew Saunders (C-N) 6-4, 6-2

No. 6: Jashan Joachim (WU) def. Leonard Baecker (C-N) 6-1, 6-2

 

In doubles, the Eagles used a 7-5 decision, and a tiebreaker to win 7-6 clinching two matches and the doubles point from No. 11.

No. 1: Luka Brown/Carlo Rosellini (WU) def. Gjorgji Jankulovski/Louis Keenan (C-N) 7-5

No. 2: Marnix Van Dalen/Paul Gayk (C-N) def. Gabriel Constantino/Martino Colabella (WU) 7-6

No. 3: Matthew Saunders/Leonard Baecker (C-N) def. Petar Basic Palkovic/Jashan Joachim (WU) 6-3

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 2, for another road contest against rival Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tenn. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the LMU Indoor Tennis Complex.
