JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's basketball coach Mike Mincey opens his 2020-21 recruiting class with the addition Furman transfer Skylar Boshears to add to the talent coming back to Mossy Creek for his 10th season on the bench. Boshears has enrolled as a student at Carson-Newman with the intention of being eligible in January 2021.
"We are excited that another East Tennessee native has found her way back to Carson-Newman," Mincey said. "Like many of our other transfers, Skylar was a local player that we offered and recruited up to the day she committed to Furman and eventually signed with them. She's a tall guard with a lot of offensive skill which we like about her. She can play at all three levels offensively and has good lift on her jump shot. I think she will fit in well with our current personnel, culture and style of play. She is the caliber of player we have to continually recruit and sign if we want to compete in the very tough South Atlantic Conference and Southeast Region."
A four-year starter for Campbell County High School in La Follette, Tenn., Boshears scored just shy of 2,000 career points leading the team with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals while shooting 54 percent from the field during her senior season in 2018-19.
The guard averaged 16.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the field as a junior at Campbell County helping her squad to a 21-10 record, district runner-up finish, and regional semifinal appearance in 2017-18.
With the Paladins during the first semester of the 2019-20 season, Boshears played seven minutes in two games recording one rebound to open her collegiate career.
Boshears adds to a recent string of transfers from local high schools to play for Mincey. All-Americans Haris Price and Mika Wester transferred to Mincey's program while the Marosites, Kayla and Kelci, and Qua Hines play critical minutes for the Lady Eagles this season. Kayla is an all-region selection and among the nation's leaders in rebounding, double-doubles and one of the top stat sheet stuffers in Division II.
