Mincey welcomes Lindsey Taylor to Mossy Creek

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Lindsey Taylor, a 6-1 center from Maryville, is the newest addition to Mike Mincey's roster as the Furman transfer committed to the Lady Eagles to play in 2020-21 announced by the program Tuesday after starring during her freshman year for the Paladins.

"We are excited Lindsey has decided to continue her academic and athletic career at Carson-Newman," Mincey said. "She is a force inside the paint and will be a huge addition to our roster. Her ability to establish position on the low block and finish with a high percentage will help solidify our inside-out game. She is also a great rebounder, specifically on the offensive end. Lindsey's a great student and comes from a great family. Locally, she had great success competing for Scott West at Maryville High School and Jeff Kyle with the Tennessee Lady Trotters. I think her experience of competing at Furman and in the SoCon will be very valuable in her transition to Carson-Newman."

Helping guide Furman to a 19-12 record in 2019-20, Taylor was named to the SoCON's All-Freshman team. The Maryville, Tenn. native started seven of her 31 games played as a rookie averaging 6.6 points and just shy of three rebounds per night adding eight steals and five blocks. In 14 minutes of action per night, Taylor shot 60 percent from the field making 71 of 118 field-goal attempts.

"I am super excited for my upcoming years at Carson-Newman," Taylor said. "The family atmosphere at Mossy Creek is what really drew me to join. They not only have a strong basketball program but the academic programs are phenomenal."

The 6-1 center scored in double figures eight times as a freshman producing a season-high 15 points at Richmond on Dec. 8 going 6-for-7 from the field. From Nov. 13 to Dec. 8, Taylor scored double digits in five of seven outings.

Of her 86 total rebounds on the season, 42 came at the offensive end getting at least one in 24 games and multiple on a dozen occasions. She set a season-high with six rebounds against Wofford on Feb. 29 blocking two shots at Wofford on Feb. 1.

A three-time all-district selection at Maryville, she scored 1,082 career points leading the team to a 30-4 overall record in 2018-19, a sub-state appearance and a District 4AAA championship. Over the course of her senior season, Taylor averaged 13 points, eight rebounds shooting 68 percent from the field tallying 14 blocks and 51 assists.

As a junior, she averaged 10 points, six rebounds and shot 56 percent from the field her where she guided the team to a second place district finish and region semifinal appearance.

Taylor adds to a recent string of transfers from local high schools to play for Mincey including fellow Furman transfer Skylar Boshears, who committed to C-N in January. All-Americans Haris Price, Mika Wester and Kayla Marosites transferred to Mincey's program in the last few seasons while the Kelci Marosites and Qua Hines played critical minutes for the Lady Eagles in 2019-20.

Carson-Newman has won 20 games in each of the last four seasons and reached the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championships. The Lady Eagles have led the South Atlantic Conference in scoring in five straight seasons and is one of three Division II teams and one of four teams in the top two divisions to rank in the top seven nationally in scoring over the last four campaigns.
