Marosites reels in fifth TSWA Player of the Week nod

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the fifth time in her career, Kayla Marosites was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week after leading the Lady Eagles to victories over UVa-Wise and Newberry.

The honor brings her career awards tally to 20 notching her 12th different player of the week honor from various organizations, eight of which have come during her senior season most recently winning the South Atlantic Conference honor on Feb. 17.

In two wins, the Elizabethton, Tenn. native averaged 17 points and 16 rebounds per game making 14 of 15 free throws and draining a pair of triples adding five assists, three steals and two blocks.

She reset her own single-season double-double record with her 22nd of the season helping Carson-Newman to its 20th win of the year taking down UVa-Wise Wednesday evening. Marosites tallied her fourth career 20-rebound effort finishing the game with 12 points, 21 rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two steals. The Elizabethton, Tenn. held the record with 21 as a junior in 2018-19.

On Senior Day, the two-time all-conference pick posted her 23rd double-double of the year with 22 points and 11 rebounds making all 12 of her foul shots. The senior moved into ninth on the school's scoring list passing former teammate Mika Wester to bring her total to 1,343. She moved into third on the rebounding list with 1,052 her in career passing Jana Davis.

Marosites ranks top 10 in the country in three different categories posting the third-most double-doubles in Division II on the year ranking fourth among all active NCAA players with 57 double-doubles.

Carson-Newman opens the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championships Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against seventh-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne. Air time on the ESN is 6:45.
