Carson-Newman, SAC to cancel remainder of spring sports in response to COVID-19

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - In response to the public health threat of COVID-19 and after consultation with medical and public health professionals, the South Atlantic Conference and Carson-Newman have cancelled all remaining intercollegiate athletic competition and practices for both in-season and out-of-season sports for the spring of 2020. This decision is immediate and applies to contests beginning March 12 through the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.

This cancellation of athletic activities applies not only to Carson-Newman, but to all South Atlantic Conference member institutions.

Carson-Newman's women's basketball, swimming and track teams have been pulled from NCAA competition in Greenwood, S.C.; Geneva, Ohio and Birmingham, Ala., respectively, in concurrence with the NCAA's decision Thursday to cancel all NCAA championship events for the winter and spring.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.
