Lady Eagles in second after first round of Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles are six strokes back of tournament-leader Newberry College after the first round of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, played Monday at the Country Club of Salisbury (N.C.)

C-N fired a team 307 (+19) and has a six-stroke lead on Tusculum College heading into Tuesday's final round.

Sophomore Mary Tunnell (Memphis, Tenn.) is alone in second place after firing an even-par 72 in Monday's round. She is one stroke back of the leader, Maria Luz Besio of Newberry after firing a 1-under 35 on the back nine.

Junior Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) is in a four-way tie for sixth after an even-par 36 on the front side to shoot 75 (+3) and to join Tunnell in the top 10.

The Lady Eagles are second among a field of 15 teams that includes eight South Atlantic Conference schools.

Sophomore Louise McGillivray (Banchory, Scotland) is 13th after carding a 6-over 78 for her round. She shot a matching pair of 39s.

Senior Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) fired an 82 is tied for 31st, while sophomore Lauren Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) is tied for 45th after shooting 84.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
