Lady Eagles in fourth after opening round at rain-soaked Newberry Invitiational

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 13 Carson-Newman Lady Eagles are in fourth place after an opening round 339 on Sunday at the 2012 Newberry College Invitational played at Moss Creek Golf Club.

Sunday's round was pushed back to the afternoon due to heavy rains. The course and conditions dominated the tournament's opening round as no golfer finished at or below par. AASU's Jenna Birch leads after a 75 (+3) in the opening round.  

Junior Melanie Manis is tied for 15th after an 84 in the opening round.

The Lady Eagles are tied for fourth with South Carolina-Beaufort at 339 (+43). The two teams are seven strokes ahead of Pfeiffer in the 10-team field.  

Armstrong Atlantic State University leads by 13 strokes over Lander University. C-N is nine strokes back of third place Newberry College (330).

Sophomores Lauren Hodge and Louise McGillivray, along with senior Erica Ray all fired an 85 in their opening rounds and are tied for 21st.

Senior Jennifer Oliver sits one stroke back of all three after an 86 in the opening round.

The final round is Monday morning at Moss Creek Golf Club.
