Ray second, Lady Eagles tied for fourth after first round at Flagler Fall Slam

SAINT AUGUSTINE'S, Fla. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles shot a team 319 and are tied for fourth after a gusty and wind-blown opening round at the Flagler Fall Slam, played Monday at the Marsh Creek Country Club.

Senior Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) fired a 2-over 74 and is tied for second, one stroke back of leader Samantha Smolen of Lynn University after the first round.

The tournament concludes with Tuesday's final round, which begins at 8 a.m.

C-N is 11 strokes behind the leader, Lynn (308). Barry University (312) is in second, while USC Beaufort (318) is third. Host Flagler, rival Tusculum, and Carson-Newman are all tied at 319 and sit at fourth in the 20-team, 105-player field.

Sophomore Louise McGillivray (Banchory, Scotland) is three strokes back of Ray and is tied for seventh after her 75.

Junior Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) is tied for 31st after shooting 82 in her opening round.

Senior Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot an 86 and sophomore Mary Tunnell (Memphis, Tenn.) finished with an 89 to round out the C-N scores.
