Lady Eagles fifth after opening round at McAmis Memorial

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman senior Jennifer Oliver is tied for ninth after a 2-over par 74 and the Lady Eagles are tied for fifth as a team through the opening round of the 36-hole 2012 Agnes McAmis Memorial Classic, played Monday at the 5,805-yard Link Hills Country Club.

The Lady Eagles shot a team 315 (+27) and are 11 strokes back of Columbus State (Ga.) for fourth. Tournament-host Tusculum College is in first with a 3-over 291 in the first round.

TC leads Lincoln Memorial (298) by seven strokes. Lander is third in the 18-team field with a 302.

Lander's Rachel Uremovich leads the tournament by a stroke after a 3-under 69.

Oliver was the only Lady Eagle to start the tournament strong. She shot an even-par 36 on the back nine to start the day.

C-N started the day on the course's back nine and struggled to get off to a fast start.

Senior Erica Ray is tied for 17th after a 77. She played her final nine holes 1-over, while junior Melanie Manis is tied for 44th after an 81. She also got off to a slow start on her first nine holes before playing her final eight holes 1-under.

Sophomore Louise McGillvray is 58th after an 83 and Mary Tunnell, playing with the team for the first time this spring since returning from an injury, is tied for 69th. She shot an 85.

Carson-Newman's Lauren Hodge is tied for 24th playing as an individual. She shot a 78, while Chelsea Passmore is tied for 44th, also playing as an individual.

The tournament's final round is Tuesday morning at Link Hills.
