Howell's Hat Trick leads Lady Eagles in 5-0 SAC win against Brevard

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Senior forward Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) had three goals to lead the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles to a 5-0 win over visiting Brevard College in their South Atlantic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at McCowan Field.

With the win, Carson-Newman improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in SAC play.

Howell had two goals in a five minute span early in the second half to put the match out of reach as Carson-Newman built a 4-0 lead. The Senior got the Lady Eagles' scoring started in the 21st minute finishing a feed from Jenna Brian (Salisbury, N.C.) giving the Lady Eagles 1-0 lead. C-N's Haley Julian gave the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead settling, turning and finishing a thrown in in the 41st minute.

Howell would add her second goal on a penalty kick in the 59th minute to put the match out of reach. The Lady Eagles would add their fifth goal in the 72nd minute as Freshman Whitney Curtis put home a cross from Raquel Pimentel. Carson-Newman keeper Alyssa Crum (Greeneville, Tenn.) posted a shutout finishing with two saves. The Lady Eagle defense held Brevard to only four shots.

Brevard Lizzie Graham led the Tornadoes with two shots, one on goal.

The Lady Eagles return to action in a busy week full of non-conference play. Carson-Newman hosts Lees-McRae on Monday at 6 p.m. It also hosts Milligan on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
