GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team limited Carson-Newman to just five shots Wednesday afternoon en route to a 2-1 non-conference victory over the Lady Eagles at the Jeff May Complex.
Lander improves to 10-2-1 overall, while Carson-Newman drops to 3-7-1.
Lander took a 1-0 lead right before halftime when Nina Morales scored on a pass from Jamie Shaw at 42:26.
The Lady Bearcats didn't allow Carson-Newman any shots in the first half.
Lara Middlebrook stretched the Lady Bearcat lead to 2-0 when she found the back of the net off an assist from Christina Barbour at 55:24.
The Lady Eagles cut the lead to 2-1 when Emily Lambert scored from in front of the goal on an assist from Trenna Howell at 77:11.
Lander outshot the Carson-Newman, 24-5, and led in corner kicks, 4-3.
Carson-Newman goalkeeper Sarah Tompkins had 13 saves, while Lander's Chelsea Beetch totaled three.
