Lady Eagles, LMU play to scoreless tie
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman College women's soccer team battled to a scoreless tie, 0-0, with visiting Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday evening in Jefferson City.

The Lady Eagles fired 15 shots atLMU goalkeeper Kayla Hanson and couldn't get on the board. They watched their own keeper, sophomore Sarah Tompkins (Franklin, Wis.), stop 19 shots in a 0-0 tie at the new McCown Field Wednesday night.

The tie puts the Lady Eagles' record at 3-5-1 with a 1-2-1 mark in the SAC. LMU is 4-4-2 with a 1-1-1 record in the conference.

Tompkins was on fire for C-N from the opening whistle. The second-year player recorded nine saves, with eight coming in the second half as the Lady Railsplitters scrounged for the winning goal to avoid overtime.

In the extra periods Carson-Newman kept the pressure on LMU in front of their net, but managed just one shot in the first OT.

For the Lady Railsplitters Sarah Taylor led with eight shots, four on goal. Leanne Reid had four shots with two on goal. Nicole McKinney had three shots with two on goal.

Carson-Newman senior forward Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) had eight shots, four on goal. Sophomore forward Haley Julian (Knoxville, Tenn.) had three shots with one on goal.

The Lady Eagles travel to Catawba Saturday, Oct. 8, to take on the Lady Indians at 5 p.m. C-N returns to action on McCown field Oct. 15 when they host Wingate at 4 p.m.
